Genre: Comedy | Crime | Music
My rating: ★★★★
Bottom line: I finally saw a movie with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.!
I grew up hearing the names of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and others associated with the Big Band style of music of that time. Having always associated these names with music, and then stumbling across the original Ocean’s Eleven on Netflix Instant and seeing these names as the starring actors, it became a much watch!
We all know the story – a bunch of guys get together to pull off a heist where they knock off a bunch of casinos in Las Vegas. I remember reading somewhere that this movie was filmed on location during downtime between performances at The Sands. Unlike the 2001 remake, the movie is a lot less serious and clearly meant to be a comedy. Lots of great lines, lots of great music, and lots of fun. The only difficulty? Everyone dressed alike back then so it was hard at times to keep the characters straight!
